I pray that this fines all of you safe and out of harms way.  I have been keeping track of the Hurricane Irma as I am sure you have as well.  The latest projection has it coming over our house on Monday about 2:00 p.m.  as a category 1 hurricane.  Those to the east of the eye which includes almost all of you who are east of I-95 will get some very strong winds and the risk of tornadoes, not to mention a lot of rain.
Know that I am praying for all of you.  Also, know that the Bishop and Extended Cabinet met today and spent time praying for you and for our neighbors to the south who are going to experience even more powerful winds and a great deal of rain.

I have talked to several of you and know that some of you have already sought refuge from the storm in other places.  If you are under evacuation orders please obey those who are trying to keep us safe.  Several churches will be calling off services due to this disruptive storm and the dangers it brings.  I commend you for these options where you deem it wise.  If you are relocating, please try to address members of your congregation who are most vulnerable.  Also encourage persons who are in mandatory evacuation areas to obey these officials who are seeking to keep us all safe.

Know that you can keep up with our conference's response to this storm by going on the sgaumc.com web page and get up to date information on churches that are providing safe sanctuary to hurricane victims. Allison Lindsey and the Connectional Ministries Team is working hard to help us in the difficult time.  Much has already been done to help those fleeing the storm.  Keep your congregation informed as we journey through this unsettling time.  We do not know how long it will be before we can return home.  Remember that for many it took two weeks before persons could return to some areas.

Also know that I am canceling Cluster 1 Preconference Meeting scheduled for next Monday and also their Cluster Charge Conference scheduled for the following Sunday.  As this situation unfolds we will make decisions about other Cluster Conferences.  Somehow we will make it all work so be patient with the disruption we are encountering.

Above all remember that God is with you and your congregation in this unwanted event.  Please let me know if you have persons in your community who are displaced or if there is damage to your church or parsonage.  Feel free to call my cell (478-342-0003) if you discover needs or if I can be of help to you.

Blessings and love,

Wayne
